phrase search
Google supports three types of phrase search.
1. To match an exact phrase, put quotation marks around the phrase
— for
example: “jon
atack paintings”
2. To match a near phrase to within a couple of words, put square brackets
around the words
— for example: [jon atack paintings]
To match a far phrase to within a couple of words, put braces around the
words
— for example: {jon atack paintings}
+ and - qualifiers
If you prepend a word with a + symbol, that word is required
to be on the page. Conversely, if you prepend a word with a - symbol, that
word is required to not be on the page.
— for example: +always -never
* wildcard
If a query word ends with a * symbol, the search will look
for all words on a page which start the same way as that query word.
— for example: paint*
? wildcard
If a query word contains a ? symbol, this symbol will be
substituted for any single character.
— for example: j?n
boolean search
You can use the following boolean operators in your search: AND, OR, NOT. These operators MUST
be in capital letters.
— for example: (oil AND paintings) OR (watercolour AND paintings)
